I have a big soft spot for Dorset with it’s thriving live music scene and I have a hot tip for anyone that is thinking about heading down to the festival, you could do a lot worse than booking a few more days in the area as it is teeming with really interesting stuff to visit such as Maiden Castle, Stonehenge, Chesil Beach and the Cerne Abbas Giant to name but a few. It’s also a great place to visit on the way to Devon which is generally described as better than Dorset

This year’s festival brings together three of the Crawdaddy festival brands under one roof, as it were. The Wonky Donk stage will feature the best of hoedown, country and hillbilly music. The Dark Holler stage takes a slightly, well, darker comedic look at life and the Organford stage is a more accessible, easy listening venue. New for 2023 we’re adding an interactive area which we are calling Dungaville. Dungaville will feature a host of local talent, it will host kids’ entertainment, a hillbilly king and queen fashion show, some games and also the Well Bean Art Tent and Safe Space. 

The history of the Rustic Stomp goes back over 10 years, when Hawkeye Houlihan and some friends put on a little festival at the Donkey Sanctuary at Home Farm, Lytchet. The aim then was to help rescue donkeys by putting on some great rustic music that people would love. Well, the donkeys are rescued now and the festival is growing, its aim to put the Dorset ‘roots’ scene on the map.

Last summer singer songwriter Heston Lee headed out to Fuerte El Condor in the Tabernas Desert armed with some fine musicians to shoot the video for ‘Oh Biddy’, the lead single for his debut album ‘Farewell my Love’. Although I haven’t heard the whole album yet ‘Oh Biddy’ is a really nice tune which is in no way surprising when you realise that Heston’s band on this occasion is made up of Killing Joke’s Youth on bass, former 101ers and PIL drummer Richard ‘Snakehips’ Dudanski and Spanish guitarist Juan Codorniu. The production is also top notch having come straight out of The Space Mountain Studio with Youth on the buttons and sliders.
